Frequently anticipated questions:

What does this data set describe?

Title: Navigability Determination Landstatus
Abstract:
Navigability Land is a system table for lands that are associated with a Navigability Document.
This land may be PLSS townships and sections. If so, there is an implied association with the source for this data in the SDMS database. This association is made through the Twp TIN Number for Townships and a combination of Twp TIN Number and the Section Number for Sections.
This land may be identified as withdrawals. Withdrawals would be Executive Orders and proclamations, Public Land Orders and Public Laws. These lands do not have a direct association with the PLSS.

Why was the data set created?

Navigability Land is a system table for lands that are associated with a Navigability Document.
Navigability Land is also used for graphic display of PLSS sections that have been examined as part of a navigability determination. The most recent navigability determination document determines whether or not a PLSS section contains or does not contain navigable hydrography.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    Date: 15-Jul-2013 (process 1 of 1)
Nav Lands are built from navigability reports. Nav Lands are either noted as containing or not containing navigable waters. The latest determination of a nav land determines the status of the land.

  3. What similar or related data should the user be aware of?

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

Nav_Land attributes are derived from field reports and/or system generated. All attributes are entered by subject matter experts and are reviewed for accuracy.

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

    Complete as collected

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

Polgyon topology exists. This dataset was derived from the statewide section protraction dataset.
